UV radiation accumulates throughout our lifetime. It causes damage in the form of premature aging of the skin and formation of wrinkles and lines. It then progresses to cause areas of redness and thickening (liver spots). The next step is the formation of actinic keratosis [which if left untreated can develop into skin cancer] which is commonly treated with the application of liquid nitrogen but which can leave hypo-pigmentation scarring and is painful. In the worst-case it leads to the formation of skin cancer. Damaged skin can be treated successfully. This therefore not only has cosmetic benefits but also has therapeutic medical benefits as well. |
